Biography —

The international award-winning British vocal ensemble Apollo5 delights audiences with versatile and engaging performances on the concert platform, singing repertoire ranging from renaissance, classical and contemporary choral music to folk, jazz and pop.

Frequently performing in their home city of London they have sung at the Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Arena, the Barbican, St Martin-in-the-Fields, The Troxy, Café de Paris, Crazy Coqs, the Houses of Parliament and Kings Place as well as the City of London Festival and The London A Cappella Festival. They frequently give concerts at their home, the Gresham Centre.

The five outstanding vocalists perform across the UK and internationally in Europe, the USA and Asia. The group made its southeast Asian debut in 2016 taking part in the Taipei International Choral Festival, and in the last 2 years has made debut performances in France, Italy and Estonia. Highlights of the 2017/2018 season include performances in Italy (Treviso), Germany (Heidelberg Frühling Festival), the Netherlands (Wonderfeel Amsterdam) and for La Folle Journée in France (Nantes). They will also give a month-long debut tour of the USA.

Apollo5 is part of the VCM Foundation, and is involved in its innovative education programme aiming to inspire creativity through music. Working alongside VOCES8, this programme reaches 40,000 young people annually in the UK, Germany, France, Sweden, the USA and Asia. The foundation has its home at the Gresham Centre, at St Anne and St Agnes Church in the heart of the City of London. In partnership with the Diocese of London, VCM has established a hub for excellence in education, outreach and the performance of vocal music. This season sees the first Gresham Centre Festival in which the group will perform with VOCES8 and the VOCES8 Scholars.

Apollo5 leads regular workshops, masterclasses, and a children’s concert series at the Gresham Centre, as well as longer term projects and residency programmes. The group also oversees an extensive outreach project called the Open Mind Programme in Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Newham. Now in its third year, the Open Mind Programme has received support from Arts Council England, The Merchant Taylors’ Company and the Worshipful Company of Plaisterers.

Apollo5 has released albums with VCM Records, the latest of which is “With a Song in my Heart”, and on the Edition Peters Sounds label features on former King’s Singer Paul Phoenix’s EP “Journey”. This season a new album of previously unrecorded music by Josquin des Prez will be released on VCM Records.

Apollo5 will start to publish its musical arrangements with Edition Peters this year.
