This month, three of Ikon Arts Management’s artists feature in Gramophone Magazine. Newly-released CDs by The Sacconi Quartet, Peter Donohoe and The Marian Consort all attract high praise, and The Sacconi Quartet feature again in ‘Critic’s Choice’.

The Sacconi Quartet’s latest release of music by contemporary composer John McCabe (NMC recordings) is very highly praised,  the reviewer saying he ‘cannot recommend this strongly enough‘.  The Sacconi Quartet’s rendition of ‘The Woman by the Sea’ is reviewed as ‘the finest performance of this work I have heard’. ‘In Damascus’ (Signum Records), with Mark Padmore, is Malcolm Riley’s ‘Critic’s Choice’. ‘Of all the discs I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing’, he writes, ‘the recent chamber / vocal disc of Dove’s music stands out head and shoulders above the rest’.

Peter ‘Donohoe is an assured and sympathetic guide’ through his latest disk of Shostakovich’s Piano Sonatas and Concertos (Signum Records), and ‘in his hands, the intensity never sags’.

The Marian Consort’s disc (Delphian), ‘Music for the Queen of Heaven’ is described as ‘richly rewarding’. The CD also features EPAM artist Anna Dennis, whose solo in Howells’ Salve Regina is ‘deliciously outstanding’. A setting of the Magnificat by Roxanna Panufnik, an Edition Peters composer, is also on the disc. Rory McCleery features on the Gramophone podcast this month, discussing ‘Music for the Queen of Heaven’. A link to the interview can be found by clicking here.
