After prominently featuring throughout the BBC Piano Season, on television and radio, acclaimed pianist Noriko Ogawa is BBC Radio’s 3 artist of the week and her performances will be featured everyday this week on the ‘Essential Classics’ programme. Noriko has already appeared on BBC Four television in the build up to the Leeds International Piano Competition, and on BBC Radio 3 with Donald Macleod’s programme ‘Composer of the Week’, her engagements at Wigmore Hall (“Noriko Ogawa demonstrated exquisite tonal control and musical clarity… with obvious humour, warmth and charm, underpinned by expert and tasteful pedalling and superb technical facility” Frances Wilson, Bachtrack October 2012) and with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in October were broadcast live, and she recently presented an episode of the ‘Saturday Classics’ programme.
In other news about Noriko, she has just released a new disc with BIS Records. After previous successful recordings with BIS ranging from a complete Debussy series and works by her compatriot Toru Takemitsu, Ogawa now presents three piano sonatas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Known together as ‘the Paris Sonatas’ (C major K 330, A major K 331, F major K 332) each piece demonstrates the high-calibre and distinctiveness in Mozart’s compositions.
