Two of our artists, Peter Donohoe and Noriko Ogawa, were thrilled to take part in Martin Roscoe’s 60th Birthday Celebration on Saturday at Kings Place. Other notable pianists performing were Kathryn Stott – who recently played ‘Circuit’, Graham Fitkin’s double piano concerto, with Noriko Ogawa and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales – Ronan O’Hora and Anthony Hewitt. The audience were treated to a diverse programme of piano duos, all featuring Roscoe, from Mozart to Holst.

Peter Donohoe (who has been Roscoe’s two piano repertoire partner since 1974) and Noriko Ogawa were excellent performing Brahms and Debussy respectively, although the highlight of the evening was Roscoe and Donohoe’s finale of a Fantasy on Themes from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess by Percy Grainger.

‘Martin Rocoe at 60: A Birthday Celebration’, again featuring Peter Donohoe, is programmed at the Bridgewater Hall in January 2013.
