With less that two weeks until Songlines Encounters Festival 2013, which takes place 5th-8th June at Kings Place, we’re getting really excited about this explosion of international music!

To whet your appetite, check out this review of HOPA! orchestra, who will be performing at the festival on Wednesday 5th June.  HOPA! performed at Bray Jazz Festival 2013 and ‘proved to be a resounding success’. ‘Four bands, Paprika,Yurodny, She’ Koyokh and North Strand Kontra Band blew tubas and trombones, exhausted fiddle strings, sang and danced for five hours, pulling the crowd into the celebration along the way.’

Paprika’s violinist Bogdan Vacarescu is acclaimed as ‘one of several standout virtuosos on the day’, Klezmer and Balkan band She’Koyokh ‘conducted a crowd sing-along in Yiddish’ (a ‘first’ for the festival) and Yurodny ‘played a rousing set’. The atmosphere was ‘fun’ and ‘relaxed’, culminating in ‘an impossibly large number of musicians from all four bands joined together on the small stage to the delight of the crowd’.To read this review from All About Jazz in full, click here.
