Stile Antico returns to the U.S. for a special collaboration with the Folger Consort and celebratory concerts for the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death. The group started its trip in Westerly, Rhode Island, with a concert and workshop for the Chorus of Westerly.
From 22-24 January Stile Antico will be performing concerts in the spectacular Washington National Cathedral and New York’s Corpus Christi Church (for Music Before 1800) with the Folger Consort and Arcadian Viols entitled ‘The Wonder of Will: Early and New Music Celebrating Shakespeare’. The programme features compositions, commissioned for Stile Antico, by renowned contemporary composers Huw Watkins and Nico Muhly. Nico Muhly’s piece, Gentle Sleep, received its world premiere at the Wigmore Hall in November to critical acclaim.
Stile Antico will return to the U.S. again in April to perform concerts in Seattle, Berkeley, Houston amongst others. The group’s Shakespeare celebrations will continue throughout 2016 with a special touring programme and schools workshops.
