Fresh from its 10th Anniversary celebrations, acclaimed vocal ensemble Stile Antico has been announced as Ensemble in Residence at the prestigious Belgian BOZAR Centre for the Arts for 2016-17. During their residency, the ensemble will perform several times at this illustrious venue, including:
6th October 2016 – Sacred or Profane: The sensual made spiritual in the Renaissance
13th March 2017 – The Touches of Sweet Harmony: The Musical World of William Shakespeare
9th May 2017 – Jesu, Meine Freude: Music of Transcedent Faith including works by Bach and MacMillan
Stile Antico looks forward to a busy Spring and Summer with a tour across the USA in April to launch their special Shakespeare400 project following by over 20 performances of this special programme across the UK & mainland Europe. Devised to mark the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, Stile Antico presents a beguiling selection of music connected with the life and work of England’s greatest writer. Stile Antico explores rare surviving settings of his words by his contemporaries, music connected to the great events of his lifetime and new settings of Shakespeare’s poetry by Nico Muhly and Huw Watkins.
An Art Deco masterpiece by Victor Horta, the BOZAR Centre of Fine Arts is one of the jewels of Belgium’s cultural and architectural heritage. Following intensive renovation and restoration work, the Centre recently re-opened its original spaces consisting of a network of exhibition rooms, theatre halls and the Henry Le Boeuf hall, and a concert hall seating 2200.
