Stile Antico embarks upon another US tour today, which will take the group to six locations across the country. As part of the commemorations for the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, Stile Antico will perform a special programme “The Touches of Sweet Harmony” in Seattle (9 April), Concord NH (12 April) and Houston (15 April). The group also perform in Berkeley, Brattleboro VT and Milwaukee, as well as taking part in several outreach events.
“The Touches of Sweet Harmony” features two new settings of Shakespeare texts composed especially for the group, Nico Muhly’s Gentle Sleep (commissioned by and premiered at the Wigmore Hall) and Huw Watkins’ The Phoenix and the Turtle.
This tour forms part of the group’s ongoing celebrations for their own 10th anniversary and is the second of three tours to the USA in 2016. It also forms part of Stile Antico’s wider Shakespeare celebrations, which include over 20 performances of “The Touches of Sweet Harmony” programme, including performances at the Newbury, Stour and Canterbury Festivals, the prestigious Dartington International Summer School and at BOZAR and Bruges Concertgebouw in Belgium.
