Over the past month the Sacconi Quartet have released two new discs of works by contemporary composers, showcasing their impressive breadth of repertoire.

John McCabe: Silver Nocturnes
with Roderick Williams (baritone) David Pyatt (horn) and John McCabe (1939-2015) himself on piano.

This disc features three chamber works by prolific composer and pianist McCabe: his piano quintet The Woman by the SeaSilver Nocturnes for baritone and string quartet, and his Horn Quintet.

Graham Fitkin: String Quartets
This disc compiles Fitkin’s complete works for string quartet which were composed between 1992 and 2007.

It includes String, premiered by the Sacconi Quartet in 2007, and also features Fitkin’s quartets Servant, Pawn and Inside, plus other pieces. With the exception of Servant, all of the pieces on the disc are premiere recordings.

The quartet will launch their Fitkin disc at Kings Place on Thursday 7th December, in a concert which will feature Graham himself at the piano.

The Sacconi Quartet will appear on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune this Thursday at 4.30pm.
