Justin and Maasaki Suzuki lead concerts

The RIAS Kammerchor Berlin and Chief Conductor Justin Doyle will travel to Japan from 26 October to 7 November 2018 and give a total of five concerts in Tokyo, Osaka and Kanazawa.

The versatile choir of 35 singers will perform a variety of baroque and romantic a cappella motet repertoire from Bach to Mendelssohn and Bruckner. They will also perform Monteverdi’s Vespers accompanied by the Capella de la Torre, last heard performed by both choir and the Capella de la Torre in September 2017 in Berlin’s Pierre Boulez Saal. There will also be a workshop with the local Philharmonic Choir on Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.

Another highlight will be the renewed collaboration with Masaaki Suzuki. In 2011 the Bach expert was a guest in Berlin. On this tour he conducts works by Mendelssohn in Tokyo and Kanazawa, juxtaposing the cantata Wie der Hirsch schreit nach fresischem Wasser with the Christus-Oratorium, which has only been passed down in fragments.

Listen to the glorious sound of the choir here.
