On Tuesday 19th March, the Piatti Quartet will perform the World Premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s new String Quartet No. 4, ‘Winter’s Edge’, at Klarafestival in Brussels.

‘Winter’s Edge’ has been commissioned by the Piatti Quartet, who have very strong links with Turnage. Their most recent album, Albion Refracted, features the world premiere recording of his String Quartet No. 1 ‘Twisted Blues with Twisted Ballad’, and the Piatti premiered Turnage’s second String Quartet at Wigmore Hall in 2016.

Albion Refracted garnered high praise:

“The Piatti play [the Turnage] with absolute authority and conviction. A most enterprising and rewarding programme.” Andrew Farach-Colton, Gramophone
“This excellent album traces an intriguing path through modern British works for quartet… The Piatti Quartet are on ferociously fine form.” Kate Wakeling, BBC Music Magazine, 4*

As one of the most played and most celebrated contemporary composers, Turnage’s works skillfully blend classical and jazz idioms, modernism and tradition.

The Piatti will give the London Premiere of ‘Winter’s Edge’ at Wigmore Hall on Sunday 25th May.
