Today sees the release of Volume II of Beethoven Plus; Daniel Tong and Krysia Osostowicz’s masterful Beethoven project, with SOMM Recordings.
The eagerly-awaited disc sees violinist Krysia and pianist Daniel reuniting to conclude their ambitious project to commission ten leading contemporary composers to write ‘companion’ pieces for – and inspired by – Beethoven’s seminal set of 10 Violin Sonatas.
Volume I of the series was released in 2018 and described as “…patient, affectionate, warmly conversational, sensitive to harmonic detail… a delight” by Gramophone Magazine.
Beethoven Plus was launched in 2015, presenting the ten Beethoven Violin Sonatas alongside ten newly commissioned partner pieces from acclaimed composers, and the project was toured throughout venues across the UK.
The composers are: Jonathan Dove, Judith Bingham, David Matthews, Matthew Taylor, Huw Watkins, Jeremy Thurlow, Elspeth Brooke, Peter Ash, Philip Ashworth and Kurt Schwertsik.
