Eriks Esenvalds “Voice of the Ocean” performed in livestream by Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra


On February 26, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (hr-Sinfonieorchester) will livestream a concert entitled “Theoton and the Ocean”, featuring Eriks Esenvalds’ piece “Voice of the Ocean”, for organ and string orchestra. Playing the organ solo is the outstanding player Iveta Apkalna. The concert will also feature music by other contemporary composers – Jukka Tiensuu (Finland), Milica Djordjevic (Serbia) and Sebastian Fagerlund (Finland).

Eriks’ work Voice of the Ocean was written for Iveta Apkalna and first performed by her with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and conductor Andris Poga in Riga Cathedral in September 2014. Since 2017 Apkalna has served as the titular organist of the Klais organ at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.
