Today sees the worldwide release of Fenella Humphreys’ new disc of Caprices, with Rubicon Classics.
The disc is a collection of Caprices, Études and other related things, from Paganini to new commissions, and taking in bluegrass, eastern european gypsy music and Scottish reels along the way, along with Piazzolla, Kreisler, Mark O’Connor, Schubert and some of Britain’s most exciting composers.
A number of leading composers have written for the disc, including Tom Coult, Freya Waley-Cohen, Oliver Leith, James Joslin, Roxanna Panufnik, Mark O’Connor, Laurence Osborne, Emily Howard, Sally Beamish, Robin Haigh and more.
The disc, originally funded through a Kickstarter scheme, explores some of the most demanding and virtuosic solo violin works ever written.
Fenella appeared on Radio 3 In Tune on Monday, performing excerpts from the disc (listen from 1.32).
The album will be launched this evening at a special concert at the Escape Art Centre in Tonbridge.
